About the Author
GRANVILLE SEWELL, PHD, is Visiting Professor of Mathematics at Texas A&M University and Professor of Mathematics at the University of Texas at El Paso. He is the principal developer of PDE2D, a general-purpose partial differential equation solver. Dr. Sewell has written three books and published more than fifty articles on numerical methods and applications.

College course

I bought this book for a college course. It is an ok book and was useful for the class. However, it was not a particularly interesting book unless this topic is of great interest to you. It is written as a high level college text book and is not overly helpful and is not a step by step hand-holding math book (not that I was expecting it to be). This book is useful in the sense that there is not an abundance of books available on this specific topic.
